MarketFactory uses redundant Precision Time Protocol (PTP) with an ability to fail over to Network Time Protocol (NTP) in case of a catastrophic failure. In addition to onsite FSMLabs timekeeper grandmaster distributing time from GPS we employ Perseus Telecom to ensure reliability of PTP setup. The “highest ranking” clock, called the ‘grandmaster’ clock, and synchronizes all other ‘slave’ clocks.

Production nodes at MarketFactory subscribe to both PTP providers using Solarflare Enhanced PTP Daemon (sfptpd) which has an ability to fallback to NTP.
